The Journey of The Everyday Bag

The Journey of The Everyday Bag

The Everyday Bag captures everything Vaarsa London stands for: artisan empowerment, sustainability, beauty with function and heritage. Let us take you through the bag's journey from grass to glam.

The Material: Sabai Grass

The Everyday Bag is made from Sabai Grass. Known for its strength and eco-friendliness, this resilient material is rarely seen in UK and US before. It is a strong, flexible natural fiber native to Odisha and West Bengal, Eastern India, and is widely used in the region for traditional crafts like making table mats and baskets.

Transforming this fibre into wearable art requires skilful weaving making each piece a labor of love and example of fine South Asian craftsmanship.

The Process

The Everyday Bag spans three stages:

  • Harvesting & Cleaning: Artisans collect, clean, and dry sabai grass to prepare for weaving.
  • Dyeing Naturally: Using earth-friendly dyes, the grass is transformed into vibrant hues that are gentle on the environment.
  • Weaving with Precision: Skilled hands craft each bag, incorporating hand-sewn handles to ensure durability and style.

The process is labor-intensive as it is ensured each bag is made sustainably, showcasing the artisans' dedication to craftsmanship.

At Vaarsa London, The Everyday Bag is available in a palette of 5 vibrant hues — Deep Teal, Natural Beige, Bright Red, Warm Orange, and Charcoal Black.

Shades like Deep teal add versatility, Black and Beige are timeless and vibrant Red and Orange are what make this collection uniquely South Asian. Each color is organic and hand-dyed paired with 100% vegan leather straps.
