Kusuma Lampshade in Colourful Meadow

Most lampshades hide the craft. This one is the craft. The same freehand embroidery used on the Kusuma cushion covers, but applied to a surface where light passes through the thread rather than sitting on top of it. When the lamp is off, the meadow sits quietly in colour on fabric. When the lamp is on, the stitching comes alive. The flowers cast soft shadows. The texture of the thread catches light at different angles. The effect changes through the day as natural light shifts and again in the evening when the bulb takes over. No two shades look the same because no two are stitched the same. The artisan works without a pattern on the fabric, placing each flower from memory.
