Each diya pairs a hand carved Makrana marble base with a high shine brass katori. The marble gives it weight, so it sits steady, and the brass throws the flame back for a double glow.

Once it has cooled, wipe the brass katori clean with a soft cloth. When the brass starts to dull, a little Pitambari powder brings back the shine. There is no need to polish after every use.
Wipe the marble with a damp cloth only, and do not soak it.

The maker
Makrana marble, carved in Agra
Every diya begins in Makrana, Rajasthan, where a fine grained white marble has been quarried for centuries. It is the stone of the Taj.
From there the stone travels to Agra, to marble artisans whose families have worked it for generations. Each base is shaped by hand from a single block, the hollow cut and smoothed by eye and feel rather than a mould, so no two diyas sit exactly alike.
Once the base is finished, the brass katori is set in, ready to hold the flame.
