The maker

The lotus is the flower that grows in mud and blooms clean. In South Asia it appears everywhere, in temple carvings, in textile motifs, in the names of gods. This tablecloth takes that motif and places it where it belongs — at the centre of a home, where people sit and eat and talk. Block printed in Jaipur's Sanganer district by artisans whose families have been stamping cloth for generations. The wooden blocks are hand carved. The dyes are natural. Every repeat is placed by eye. Look closely and you will find the slight variations that prove no machine was involved.
